Estimating Bin and Silo Capacity
Round Bins: To estimate the capacity of a bin, multiply the depth in feet by the diameter
squared (diameter x diameter). Multiply this by .628 to determine shelled corn capacity in bushels.
Divide by 2 to determine bushels of ear corn storage.
Square or Rectangular Bins: Multiply the length by the width by the depth of grain, all
in feet. Multiply this by .80 to determine the number of bushels of shelled corn that can be stored
in the bin.
For ear corn, divide this figure by 2.
